TREES
Mostly we take them for granted
not really seeing them at all
Not even when their dressed in their best
for winter summer or fall
We don't stop to think how essential
they are to human lives
We cut them down chop them up
though without them we couldn't survive
Forgotten the days we laid 'neath their
shade when we were but a child
Or the times we climbed to the top
seeking somewhere safe to hide
Peeping out from behind the branches
as we sat up high and dreamed
Thinking about who we'd marry and
planning other secret schemes
Stand under a tree and gaze upwards
and the wonder that you'll see
Will make you feel insignificant
well that's what it does to me
Marvel at how the sunlight creates
shadowy patterns on your face
Be grateful when it starts raining for
that dry and sheltered place
The next time that you're out walking
instead of passing by a tree
Pause for a moment beneath it
look up and then just maybe
You'll see much more than tangled
branches covered in thick leafy green
But one of natures wonders
providing the air we need to breathe.

BUSY BEES
I always thought the words
"as busy as a Bee"
Were no more than a phrase used
in old wives tales you see
I never knew how much work was
involved in the keeping of a hive
Simply to ensure that the Queen her
Drones and Workers can survive
Nor that inclement weather meant
the keepers had to feed them too
So that they could keep on making
honey for the likes of me and you
So now instead of shouting at them
to buzz off from my doorway
I will tell them politely to get off
on their pollinating way.

MONEY TREE
I wish I had in my sitting room
a potted money tree
That would make me very happy
and help me to stay debt free
I'd have my very own personal
bank without having to pay fees
Ready to replenish my funds
whenever it was necessary
I'd be able to replace my sparking
water with some Krug Champagne
Whilst pretending to be drinking it
back in San Moritz once again.
